Prescription drugs are those that are prescribed by a licensed professional, such as a physician, veterinarian, or dentist.

Prescription drug abuse is a growing problem among teens, where they may steal the drugs from parents.

Some of the more common prescription drugs of abuse are:
  • OxyContin,
  • Percoset,
  • Vicodin,
  • Valium,
  • Xanax,

and certain stimulants such as Ritalin, Adderall, and Dexadrine.

Prescription drug abuse is of particular concern for professionals that become addicted and fail to manage the professional and/or personal life owing to the addiction. In addition, persons may steal prescription drugs for recreation use, but may eventually become addicted, often requiring drug detox.
